Interesting Ideas and Questions
It is time for one of my occasional updates. Here are some of the interesting ideas and questions covered on our sites and blogs.
The Problem With Logical Thinking – What is the problem? It can be perfectly logical nonsense, as I point out in this post on my personal blog.
Hidden Bias – Okay, most of can acknowledge that we have unconscious biases. We might not like the implications, but we are probably judging people unfairly as a result. But do we actually lower our opinion of a person because he or she sits next to someone we are biased about? That’s what the research shows.
Ways to Make Money With What You Know – I give an example of taking an area of expertise or interest and making it into a revenue source in a half-dozen different ways.
Immigration and Jobs – Some myth busting–and new ideas for those who don’t read about economics. Simple question: If more workers means jobs are harder to find, why aren’t we almost all out of work after growing from a few million to a few hundred million people?
The Hidden Brain – Your own “hidden brain” may trick you when you read this post, making the point abut unconscious heuristics that guide our thinking–for better and worse.
The Spread of Pathogenic Ideas – A look at what scientists call “host manipulation,” and whether this disease process provides a good model for how bad ideas spread too.
A Simple Question? – How much can we learn by asking and exploring a simple question? This post has an example.
Reflective Questions – For example: Are our ideas of how things are “supposed to be” of any real spiritual use, or are they exactly what keeps us forever discontented with and ungrateful for the way things are?
I’ll have another update posts with more interesting ideas and questions in a couple weeks.
